Belmont Shore

A neighborhood that actually lives on the water.

Belmont Shore is the sliver of land at the tip of Long Beach — a real neighborhood, not a resort. Walk to the bay, walk to the ocean, walk to 2nd Street. People who live here stay for years. Jasmin is one of them.

LGB airport is 10 minutes away. LAX is 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. The parking situation is genuinely easy — Peninsula includes 1 dedicated spot per unit, and street parking is available on most blocks.

July and August are peak — families, surfers, everyone. September and October are better. Fewer people, the same water, the same light.

Two beaches
Alamitos Bay is right out the door — calm, sheltered, great for paddleboarding and swimming with kids. The Pacific side is a 2-minute walk for waves and surf. Very different vibes, same distance.
🍜
2nd Street
A mile-long strip of restaurants, bars, coffee, and shops. Walkable from the house — 15–20 minutes on foot, or a quick rideshare. Jasmin has a running list of her current favorites and will share it on check-in.
🚤
Water activities
Alamitos Bay is one of the best paddleboard spots in LA County. Kayaks, e-foils, and boat rentals are available a short walk away. Surf on the Pacific side — Long Beach has consistent beach breaks year-round.

"The roof deck view is just — unreal. You can see the bay to the north and the Pacific to the south at the same time. We had breakfast up there every morning. Jasmin had the kitchen fully stocked when we arrived."

"We walked to the beach four times a day. The bay side for morning swims with the kids, the ocean side for afternoons. Two beaches, one house. That setup is genuinely rare."

"We came back for the second time this year. That says everything. The upper unit is spectacular — the bay views at sunrise are something I think about regularly. Already booked for next summer."

Planning your trip

Belmont Shore, answered.

Where is Shankton Peninsula in Long Beach?
On the Belmont Shore Peninsula — the narrow strip between Alamitos Bay and the Pacific in Long Beach, California. You're about 50 meters from the sand, a short walk to 2nd Street's shops and restaurants, and minutes from Naples Island and the bay. See both units on the Shankton Peninsula page.
How far is Shankton Peninsula from the beach?
About 50 meters — a one-minute walk to the bay beach, with the open Pacific just across the peninsula. Both units include beach chairs and an umbrella, and each has a private rooftop deck with 360° bay-and-ocean views.
What is there to do in Belmont Shore?
Walk or bike 2nd Street for coffee, restaurants, and shops; paddleboard or kayak Alamitos Bay; cross to Naples Island's canals; or hit the Pacific for surfing and long beach walks. Shankton Peninsula puts you in the middle of all of it, 50 meters from the sand.
How do I get to Belmont Shore from the airport?
Long Beach Airport (LGB) is about 10 minutes away; LAX is 30–45 minutes depending on traffic. The neighborhood is walkable once you arrive, and each unit includes one dedicated off-street parking space — a rare amenity here.
Is parking easy in Belmont Shore?
Parking is the neighborhood's one catch — but each Shankton Peninsula unit includes one dedicated off-street space, which is uncommon in Belmont Shore. Street parking is available on most blocks, and honestly you won't need the car much once you're settled.
When is the best time to visit Long Beach?
Long Beach is a year-round destination with mild, sunny weather. Late spring through early fall brings the warmest beach days; winters are quiet and pleasant. 2nd Street and Alamitos Bay are liveliest on summer weekends — book early for those dates.
Can I book the whole building or just one unit?
Both. Each of the two identical units sleeps up to 6, or book the whole building for groups of up to 12. Check rates and availability on the Shankton Peninsula page — Jasmin can help you choose.
Why book directly instead of on Airbnb or Vrbo?
Booking direct at shankton.com means no platform service fees — typically 12–15% less than Airbnb or Vrbo for the same dates — plus direct contact with Jasmin, who runs the California homes. Same property, same host, better rate.
